Building a New Youth Group

Have you ever wanted to be a part of building something new?

LEAD COO, Nate Biggs, and LFHS SAP Coordinator, Dr. Mike Maka, are partnering to help YOU create a new mental health and substance use prevention-focused youth group. Youth-led prevention is not a new concept, in fact it’s been around for decades.

What are we building?

Simply put, a youth group that represents students of Lake Forest High School. It will serve as a place to discuss current events, build friendships, connect with others, and make a difference in your community. Beyond those key guideposts, we don’t really know. Because the group will be lead and the important decisions will be made by young people like you.

That’s why it doesn’t have a name yet. You’ll be part of picking it!

When and where will we meet?

We hope to meet every week, or every other week, in Lake Forest outside of school hours. We may meet on campus some days, we may meet at Lake Forest college or the LEAD office on other days. That is all up for discussion as we put this group together.

Who is helping?

The primary adult advisors for this group are SAP Coordinator Dr. Mike Maka and LEAD’s COO, Nate Biggs. We’ll also feature adult advisors from Lake Forest college including LEAD staffers Maja Gavrilovic and Sharona Kolesnikov, both of whom are psychology students at LFC.

I have more questions…

Awesome! Get in touch with either Nate or Mike and we’ll be happy to talk through your questions. This goes for parents and students alike.

How do I get involved?

Drop us your contact details and we’ll reach out with information on our founding meeting which is tentatively sometime late October, early November 2021.
